Ask the inspector to identify the actual chimney or venting system and show the relevant part in a photograph. Some properties have more than one appliance or flue, so a picture of the whole roof may not resolve the question.

Have each quoted item tied to its location and intended purpose. If more than one part needs work, request separate descriptions rather than a single unexplained charge for fixing the chimney top.

The replacement must suit the actual system. Ask about manufacturer requirements, access and any related repairs. Do not select a product solely from a visual resemblance to the existing part.
